| The beginning of this direction came with animal portrait commissions. It wasn’t long before what had at first appeared to be ordinary animals seemed to be asking to be brought more into the open with regard to their intrinsic, true nature. Actually meeting the individuals often helps capture their essential characters, but it isn’t necessary. Most of my animal portraits and some of my best ones have been done with subjects I’ve never met. |
